Work In progress:
“…Wherever you are, if you follow your bliss, you are enjoying that refreshment, that life within you, all the time.” Joseph Campbell

I am currently working on a body of work: “Out of the Ashes” which I have been developing since 2008, exploring the notions of transcendence and metamorphosis throughout ‘Sacred Art’ practiced in various societies and eras.

My month-long residency was spent painting portraits of men and women; kings & queens, writers, poets, musicians, scientists, inventors, philosophers, saints, activists, theologians, historians, archeologists, knights in shining armor… that have dedicated their lives’ work to upholding Integrity through Beauty, Passion and Love.

Approximately 230 personalities make up an ensemble, “The Mystic Lamb” inspired by the polyptych “L’Agneau Mystique” by Hubert and Jan Van Eyck, (c1426). Respecting the underlying theme of salvation from the fall of Eden to redemption, the perfectly organized scenes and groups of protagonists of the Van Eyck brothers, my piece will be an adaptation of these intentions to reflect my personal cosmology and serve as an homage to 2000 years of African history till the present day.

My appreciation and gratitude to the ComPeung team whose generosity and attentiveness, Plus the peaceful and idyllic surroundings, Plus the super-delicious food, provided the perfect backdrop for this particular venture! tapping
